The Floating Shelf creates an open space for storage. Unobtrusive within a space, the shelf is an aesthetically pleasing design solution for storage. Although this particular Floating Shelf has been made for a kitchen environment, the object can move throughout the home, wherever a shelf may be needed.
Materials used: Oak, Varnish, Stainless Steel Brackets
Process
Process
To prepare the oak for the kitchen shelf it was planed, squared and sanded down. Finally, to allow for the shelves to withstand general wear and tear of use, they were varnished before being secured to the wall. The method of blind hanging has been utilised to attach the shelves to the wall invisibly and seamlessly. This was made possible through using various tools and methods including a mortising drill and routing in the brackets.
